Time-limited individual psychotherapy; on-going and time limited groups (process and psycho-educational); crisis intervention and emergency assessment, disposition, and referral; outreach programming; educational/preventative programs on substance abuse; training and support programs; and diversity training. A sampling of recent group/workshop topics include self-esteem, stress, procrastination and perfectionism, study skills and test taking, social anxiety group, interpersonal process groups, mindfulness meditation, veterans’ workshops, dream interpretation, and a women’s survivors’ group. These services will be done through virtual means if the Pandemic is not uner control.

Each Psychology Practicum Trainee is expected to divide her/his time (17 hours weekly) among the following (responsibilities will vary):

1) individual psychotherapy,
2) co-facilitation of a group(s) (2nd Semester),
3) outreach programs, and
4) intakes/screenings. 

Attendance at Staff and Psychiatric Consultation meetings is strongly encouraged. Staff Meetings alternate on Wednesday mornings from 9:00-10:00 am. 

Attendance at weekly Professional Development meetings is required.  The day/time of these meetings is Wednesdays, 10:00 - 12 noon.

Start/End Dates: The practicum position runs from mid-August, 2020 through mid-May 2021. The Center is closed December 25 through January 1. It reopens again on the first working day after January 1.

Supervisors:  Each Psychology Trainee will be supervised by a licensed Senior Staff Psychologist. 

Cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, interpersonal, object-relations, psychodynamic, and systems. The Counseling Center staff is multidisciplinary and is trained in either clinical or counseling psychology. Two  psychiatrists and three psychiatric nurse practitioners provide psychiatric care through the on-campus Health Center at Auraria.  

A minimum of one hour weekly of individual, plus weekly in-service presentations and case discussions. The Counseling Center staff practices a collegial, open-door policy for additional supervision as needed.

Ratio of hours (supervision to clinical hours): One hour supervision for approximately seven clinical hours.

17 hours per week, including Professional Development meetings on Wednesday mornings.

Completion of 3 years in a Counseling or Clinical Psychology graduate program and good academic standing in respective training programs; 3 years psychotherapy experience; good assessment and treatment skills; interest in group therapy; interest in participation in outreach programs; knowledge and insight regarding multicultural therapy issues and experiences with diverse client populations. Personal qualities include reliability, good interpersonal skills, and professionalism.
