Let's socialize from a distance! Welcome to our weekly art happy hour and virtual Culture Club. Below you will find this week's artist inspiration, creative how-tos, and recipes. Create one or all of the things included below and be sure to share them with us on social media.
Denver's own Ratio Beerworks is offering a 20% discount on to-go/pick-up orders for Culture Club attendees. Call to place an order, mention that you attend CVA's Culture Club and they'll apply the discount. Now, grab a drink and some snacks and meet us on Zoom for happy hour at 4:00 pm Wednesday!
Meet Distill Collective
This week, we're diving into a collaborative project inspired by CVA's Collectivism exhibition from 2019. Specifically, we're inspired by the work of Distill Collective, whose members mail their drawings and collages to each other, adding their own artwork to each piece. The final work often includes objects found around the house, such as twist-ties and produce stickers, as well as drawings, painting, sewing and even flocking.
Here's How to Join in:
Interacting with others is a big part of the inspiration that goes into making art. At a time when most of us could use a little more social interaction, we have come up with a way to collaborate with all of our Culture Club buddies!
Here's how it will work. Using Google Slides, each participant of Culture Club will contribute to several pieces of art during our time together. We’ll take a simple ‘workplace’ tool and use it to make magic!
Step 1: Join us on Zoom and then open this Google slide presentation:
Step 2: Go to the + sign at the top left corner and click it to add your own slide. Then, write your name in the speaker notes area at the bottom of the slide.
Step 3: On your slide, or in the notes, write a word/phrase that describes how you’re feeling or thinking about social distancing OR just start playing around and let your slide's theme come to you as you work. We’ll show you some of the functions that are available to use on Slides, but please feel free to experiment and play!
Important Note: When adding photos to your slides, make sure to only use photos that are copyright-free or that you have permission to repost.
Step 4: Once you are satisfied with the start of your slide, move to someone else's slide and add to it based on its theme, thoughts and feelings.
Step 5: Tag your creations on social media with #CultureClubColab and #CVACultureClub throughout the following week. CVA will repost some of our favorites.
Snacks and Drinks:
It wouldn't be a proper Culture Club without food and drink. Let's have a virtual potluck!
